OUTSTANDING PRESENTATION AWARD FOR EARLY CAREER OCEAN PROFESSIONALS
An Early Career Ocean Professional (ECOP) is someone who self-identifies as a person in the beginning of their career, with ten years or less of professional experience. All students are ECOPs by default.
Awards will be given to Early Career Ocean Professionals for outstanding oral and poster presentations.
Objective of the Award
- Recognize and encourage excellence in science and engage early career professionals.
Who is eligible?
Symposium participants are eligible for the Award, if:
- they self-identified themselves as an "ECOP" during on-line registration
- the presentation is primarily their work and
- they will present the information
How to apply?
- No special application is required. Participants will be automatically included in the judging for the Award if they identified themselves as "ECOP" during on-line registration and checked the box "Consider this presentation for an ECOP Award” during on-line abstract submission. If you are ECOP, but do not wish your presentation to be considered for the Award, do not check this box. In addition, prior to the symposium, the PICES intern will inquire all eligible participants about their interest in having their presentation evaluated. To be sure that your presentation will be assessed for the Award, please reply to this request in a timely manner.
Who will decide?

The pool of judges for evaluating oral and poster presentations from among the sessions and workshops will include designated members of the symposium Scientific Steering Committee, session and workshop convenors (or later-career symposium attendees nominated by them), and selected ECOP Award winners from the previous symposia.
- It is also expected to have a “people’s choice” Poster Award – an Award for best poster presentation voted by ECOPs.
When the Award is announced?
- The announcements about the Outstanding Presentation Awards will made during the Symposium’s Closing Ceremony on May 8, 2025.
